So close... Yet so far away!

It's early February. That means a lot of things right now.  We're closing in to the end of a brutal winter. Valentines day is just around the corner. My birthday is just past that.  Then, lo and behold, we're on to March and baby countdown kicks into full swing. We're due... Well, who knows when.  Junior (NOT! according to the wife) or Juniorette is due to join us by Tax Day, but, and shocker to those who know me, my child could be slightly larger than normal.  And with a wife slightly smaller than normal, the doctor may want to induce to benefit all those involved.  So I guess it's time to put this to good use and get some thoughts out there. Super Bowl weekend proves that you can be a parent, a family, and still have fun. Granted, you now have to clean up your beer bottles or the kids will come and drink them. Lessons learned by all, I'm sure. And if you ask Meagan, and I don't suggest you do, she'll say that this is taking FOREVER.  But we know the truth. Besides, boy or girl, it doesn't matter. they'll come home wearing UK Blue.

What time is it?

As we get closer and closer to Christmas, I'm drawn to a few things, and most of the, in some way or another, seem to revolve around time. At least in my mind. First and foremost is how fast time flies! It seems like only last week we found out we were expecting a baby. Then only a few days ago we talked about names. Then yesterday we saw the ultrasound. Well, ok. You get the picture. But for dads we don't get to know the baby until he or she comes out; moms get to get started right away. For Meagan, time is moving like molasses in winter. When it's 10 degrees out. For me, time is flying. I don't know why, but it feels like we're cranking right along. Now is that because I'm excited to meet the baby? Yes. Do I wonder what sort of parent I'll be? Yes. Do I wonder if my child will like me? Yes. All of the above for the first time dad, and then some. So a final glance at the clock and ask myself "What time is it?"... Baby time will be here before you know it!

Waiting for the heat to turn on.

So we all know the old wives tails about pregnant women. During the summer they're miserably hot, almost comically trying ways to keep cool; like a fat man in the Mojave. So what they say about the winter is adversely true. Always hot with an internal heater unit built in and always on high. So why is it that my wife, who is by now eating for two, dressing for two, and sleeping for two, not hot enough for two? We've had our first cold snap of the season and my wife is huddled under any blanket she can find. At night I'm dying on top of, not even under, flannel sheets and she's buried under whatever she can grab. Go figure.

Movement!

So sitting on the couch tonight my wife breaks the news to me that she feels fairly confident that Dino has become active and definitely kicking.  Sadly, I don't get to enjoy this because she also says I probably won't get to feel it since the baby is against her.  On a positive note, my wife's pregnancy craving seems to be cheeseburgers. Yeah. I'm pretty positive that's my kid.

First Post

So it's about time.  I have been meaning to come up with a site or a blog about the pending birth of the first child for a while.  So here it is.  We've had the "BIG" ultrasound.  Everything is going well.  Mom and baby are both doing well. The joke is that my kid will be extra large. Shocker.  It's weird watching your future child sleep on an ultrasound.  I could probably have watched it for hours.  I know that sounds a little strange but I guess it's a good sign that I'm going to like the baby.  As for the name, once I decided to do the blog, it was pretty easy.  From the moment I, we, saw the first ultrasound, you were Dino.  As in Dinosaur; just like the first pictures, it stuck.  You'll probably be Dino for a long time to come.  Sorry.
